We stayed here in fall 2016, arriving after a short drive from New York city. A charming, authentic Kent home, perfect to explore the Kent area and see the splendour of its leaf fall. My wife, 12 year old daughter and I were treated to an afternoon tea on arrival by Peter, the host, which also included sherry for the adults. After introductions and welcomes, Peter left us to ourselves to eat and settle in. The Starbuck Inn was quiet but welcoming with just a few other rooms. Ours was large at the front of the house, with an extra roll out bed for our daughter. Plenty of room. The house enjoys beautiful views front and especially from the back over the beautiful garden and it's trees - seen every morning from a well positioned breakfast table. Breakfast was a home-cooked affair, tasty but a little on the small side and no real chance to ask for more. Peter was on hand to serve us our breakfast with his chef from the village, serve and refill our coffee and talk to us, about the house and the area and he was very open about his life and knowledgeable of the region - great for helping us with our drives and walks. He was particularly kind to our daughter, engaging her in conversation as well as with us adults. The Inn was just a very short stroll from the town and its few cafes, shops and restaurants, a great location to base ourselves from. All in all a lovely stay and a very welcoming, interesting and engaging host.
My wife and I booked out the inn recently for our wedding weekend for family members. Our guests were treated rudely - they were denied breakfast when they showed up a little after 9am, the cut-off time. Also, they apparently attempted to overcharge for a rollerbed which was used. However, the disturbing events came later. My wife and I had already placed a significant deposit down to secure the rooms. We were also going to pay for 3 of the 6 rooms. After the weekend, we found an unauthorized charge on her credit card, for an amount that was equal to all six rooms for both nights - double our total obligation! My wife got a complete brush off from the owner, Mr. Starbuck, who then ignored multiple emails from myself trying to follow up. I finally got him on the phone, and he proceeded to explode in a shocking tirade - he called me a "f**ing pipsqueak" at one point - when I tried to go through the account with him. Still he refused to deal with the specifics, referring me to an accountant but not providing contact details. He also said he had credited our account back but did not do so. Avoid this place - go to Inn at Kent Falls - much nicer, and wonderful people to boot - we know because we booked that one out as well.
Quant. Host was extremely attentive. Close to downtown.
Loved the sweet attention-to-detail put into this place. This is country through and through. Have stayed here ever year, and have found this to be a home away from home with delicious organic breakfast and sweeping views of the garden. The perfect place for me to quietly get my work done while also enjoy the enchanting views. Plus they offer bikes for you to use on all of the nearby trails! I look forward to my next stay.
He was very rude. All in all not a good experience.
